# The Flaming Heart

* *The Crownlands of old Azaeri form the heart of the Ekrilldorian empire and are home to more than three million people. Stretching from Monoleum on the Blackhammer peninsula to Pithaki, Kateselis, Amaridrus, and Methembria, this region is a thriving sanctuary where many denominations, ethnicities, and cultures flourish together. The Ekril mountains border to the north, the Krakoans rise to the east, while the Oronian Ocean lies to the west. This province is indispensable to Ekrilldor, providing the logistical, governmental, and religious foundations that sustain the empire.*

# Oron’s Orthodoxy and Boicism.

* *Oron's Orthodoxy began with the ancient Azaerian polytheistic Azrennic Cult, but today the faith centers on the worship of Oron alone. Four patron saints—Lothar, Noahsa, Mereen, and High-King Boic—are honored. Oron is seen as the All-father of the Azaerian Dwarves and later the Ekrilldorian Empire. High-King Boic, blessed by Oron, rose to the throne after driving out a demon infestation from the ancient capital, Kharnathrangul, also called Oroniye. He then centralized power around himself and his descendants, who became King-Emperors, believed to rule by divine right. For thousands of years, the cult of Boic remained a smaller part of Oron's worship, viewing Boic as Oron's son and a demigod. This continued until the event known as “The Great Catastrophe,” when two-thirds of their homeland sank into the sea. The eastern cities of Khar Darin, Bharakorum Kione, and Bhrytenae became the new successor state, led by a descendant of Boic, Magistrate Azalea, who is seen as the "Mother of the Nation". She declared herself Queen-Empress of the revived Ekrilldorian Remnant and spent her reign rebuilding her realm and, most importantly, their faith. The Cult of Boic draws its commandments, inspiration, and morals from Oron's Orthodoxy, especially valuing humility, self-sacrifice, and family above all else. Azalea despite her efforts remains the* ***ONLY*** *Queen-Empress in history. But her deeds in reforming the faith has eternalized her legacy in the "Song of Boic".*

# The Smoldering Sea

* *The Sunken ruins of Kharnathrangul and what once was the wider Azaerian Peninsula. No one knows what caused it to sink. But all in living memory can recall the sulfuric fumes which bubble up to the surface. The raging calderas and volcanoes that belch out black smoke. With shattered islands dotting the entirety of the Oronian ocean being all that remains of the ancient landmass. Leaving only two regions still above the waves, the Blackhammer islands and Drarrowstrone peninsula.*

# Its Inhabitants

**The Azaerians**

* *Quiet, and timid, calculated and precise. Brown brunette hair, and slim, stubby figures. They are the closest ethnicity that shares the blood of old Azaeri besides the High-Darinians. Unique among most of their kin. It is harder for them to develop facial hair. Often used as a way to mock and diminish them. However, they make up for this with their intellect and craftsmanship. Often being the smartest and most put together of the Fyutennme (Forge-folk). They also compose the majority of the ruling caste. Making sure that all who visit their land understand. That the blood of the conqueror, the blood of ancient legionaries, and the lands promised to them by Oron will forever be theirs to hold and use as they see fit.*

**The Dwerillki**

* Stubborn, quick, and stoic. These are the Dwerillki, the proudest of the Fyutennme, who are the majority within the capital province. Long beards and straightened hair. They're more often to be found in Kione, Pithaki, and across the Darrowstone Plateau. A resource-rich region that directly contributes to their biggest export. Raw minerals and labor. Miners, sailors, tailers, etc., are the backbone of several viceroyalties. Known the world over for their trade and service in the armed forces.

**Gattlanders and Halflings**

* Brown hair and slight hints of High Darinian ginger. Native to Gamgudor and the Black-Hammer Peninsula. Their mere existence is entirely due to The Great Catastrophe. When refugees fled to the islands and intermingled with the natives. Ever resistant to invaders, and continue to practice the ways of old despite how archaic it may seem. Clan wars rage on their islands, and rarely do either side achieve their goals. Clan Mckinnes for example, is native to Gamgudor. More compassionate than the rest of their kin. Several volunteer armies have formed throughout history. To assist foreign nations in struggles they see as just. So far, they're also the only ethnicity to actively contest Clan Bravesoul's hegemony over their empire and race.

**High Darinians**

* Inhabitants of the capital and its surrounding landscape. The blazon-haired, the proud. These are the direct kinfolk of Father Boic and Old Azaeri. While struggling to grow facial hair, it is a sign of age and knowledge for some. However, specifically for women. Current beauty and societal standards disapprove of them sporting a beard. They are more often seen among high society and the clergy. Descending from great houses or powerful clans. They are at the very top of the caste system, and even the royal family shares their blood. Alongside a more potent tie to more magical influences. Specifically, that of fire elementals.

**Manthri**

* *A bulk term used for all Humans living within the Empire. Some have assimilated while others keep their identities from before their integration into the empire. Or when they immigrated into it. They're the second largest minority in the empire and the only one permitted to own lands. They can become generals, lords, serve guilds, etc. Entire parts of their civilization depends on their co-operation. For the race of men is both a valuable asset and foe. In the eyes of the High Darinian nobility.*
