How to make a map more depressing/dark aesthetically

I'm working on a new dark fantasy setting taking place after a 142 year long conflict that has ravaged much of the land and its people with war, famine, and disease. Need some advice about how I could evoke that tone in the map as it'll be the main thing players look at throughout the campaign and I'd like to maintain the tone visually. I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks.
