Perhaps the group were always zealous fanatics, perhaps the fey-touched presence within the temple influenced their minds.***

***Either way they have dedicated themselves to an un-seeable, un-knowable being that resides beneath, or perhaps within the whirlpool. It's hunger is endless, and it's followers relentless in their drive to bring it souls to devour.***
